Girl Scouts Beyond Bars - COOKIES!!!
by Hannah Milford, MA, LPC, LCDC, RPT on February 1st, 2015

It's that time of year again:
Time for Girl Scout COOKIES!

Years ago I saw the touching documentary, Troop 1500 Girl Scouts Beyond Bars (see video below). I knew I had to get involved. Last year I got my chance! I became a mentor for the very special Girl Scout Troop 1500.  Girls in this troop all have something unique in common, they all have mothers that have been incarcerated. It’s so hard for these girls to grow up without their mothers. Girl Scouts offers these girls so much support. I’m so proud to apart of it.
When you buy Girl Scouts cookies, you aren’t just enjoying sweet delicious goodness; you are contributing to an amazing program that does so much for the community. You are helping provide services, such as counseling and transportation to visit their mothers. Selling Girl Scout cookies teaches girls about:
  • Goal Setting
  • Decision-Making
  • Money Management
  • People skills
  • Business Ethics
This year Troop 1500 is selling Thin Mints, Samoas, Tagalongs, Trefoils, Do-Si-Dos, and Savannah Smiles. The new flavors for this year are Ra-Ra-Raisin and Toffee-Tastic. Yum!

Check out the chart below to see how cookie revenue helps Girl Scouts:

Cookies go on Sale January 21, 2015!

As you can see, your cookie purchase makes a difference. The Girl Scouts Beyond Bars helps girls in so many amazing ways. The documentary, Troop 1500 Girl Scouts Beyond Bars sparked my interest and motivated me to get involved with the program.
