Difficulty Adjusting to Life Transition Counseling

Does it feel as though your adjustment or reaction to a recent change in your life is out of proportion and is starting to negatively impact other areas of your life? Maybe this change was your choice, or maybe the change was unexpected and unwanted, and you’re finding yourself consumed with feeling stuck in place and unable to regain a sense of balance. Perhaps you’re a concerned parent who has a tween or teen that needs extra assistance and support through a transitional time.

Some of the areas I specialize in are:

Disenfranchised Grief

Disenfranchised grief is grief that is unacknowledged or unvalidated by social norms. The grief is often stigmatized or minimized by others which can make it difficult to process it in a healthy way and can lead to feelings of shame and isolation. I offer a non-judgemental, safe, therapeutic space for you to process this grief in a healthy way.

Some examples of the disenfranchised grief are:
  • Loss of a Pet
  • Grief after an Elected Abortion
  • Losing In-Laws after a Divorce
  • Loss of a Loved One Convicted of a Crime
  • Loss of a Lifestyle
  • Grieving Someone You Didn’t Know Well (Online friend, doctor, coworker)
  • Loss of a Job
  • Grieving a Living Loved One Suffering from Dementia

Difficulty Adjusting to Remote Worker Lifestyle

As we adjust to the global changes in our world, many of us have been instructed or have elected to become remote workers. Though remote work can come with many positive benefits, adjusting to the lifestyle can be difficult to acclimate to. Issues that may arise that are unique to the remote worker can include:

  • Issues with a lack of self-discipline or motivation
  • Executive dysfunction
  • Lack of work/life balance
  • Increased pressure and responsibilities
  • Feelings of loneliness and/or a lack of support
  • Uncertainty due to irregular flow of income
  • Poor or unclear boundaries with others or self
  • Isolation/Finding it easy to disconnect from others

Difficulty Adjusting to Motherhood

While conversations around postpartum depression and the struggles of being a mom have become less stigmatized and more widely discussed, for many it is still an emotionally stressful place to be in. The shift in focus on your baby and your baby’s needs can feel like a crisis of identity or a grieving process of your former self. Perhaps where there was once a secure, certain person who understood their place in the world, you’re feeling self-doubts begin to creep in of what your new life will be like, and where you fit into it. In our sessions together we will work on regaining your sense of self, allowing you to feel more authentically you. We will process through any grief or unresolved issues from your own childhood that may emerge. I’ll assist you in understanding the changes in your body and mind after pregnancy, and we will work on developing more self-compassion while creating a wellness plan that is realistic and sustainable.
