Congrats new LPC Associate!

Texas LPC Associate Supervision

You’ve done it! The late nights of studying, countless hours of practicum, and the nerve-wracking exams are behind you.

Now, you stand at the threshold of an exciting and rewarding career in counseling.

As you embark on this new chapter, it’s time to celebrate your achievements and prepare for the journey ahead.

Are you ready to transform your supervised experience into a successful, profitable private practice?

Step 1: Pass Your Exams

You must pass two exams. You can (and should) get these done as soon as possible.

  • National Counselor Examination (NCE): This is the national exam. Since you’ve graduated, you are eligible to register and take this through the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC). Your scores will be sent directly to BHEC.
  • Texas Jurisprudence Exam: This is an online, open-book exam on Texas-specific laws and ethics. It’s crucial to pass this—make sure you save the certificate of completion. You must submit your associate application within six months of passing this exam.

Step 2: Find Your LPC Supervisor

The next important step is choosing the right supervisor to guide and support your growth. Finding the right supervisor is essential for your development as an LPC Associate.

A great supervisor not only shapes your clinical skills but also helps you build confidence and professionalism for a successful counseling career. You must have a BHEC-approved supervisor to get your associate license.

How to find a LPC Supervisor:

  • Use the BHEC Online License Verification Portal. You can search for “Approved Supervisor” and filter by city (like San Marcos, Austin, or San Antonio) to find counselors approved to supervise you.
  • Interview Them: Reach out to potential supervisors. This is a critical relationship, so find someone whose style and expertise match your goals. Discuss fees, supervision style, and expectations.
  • Sign the Agreement: Once you choose a supervisor, you will both sign a Supervisory Agreement Form. This form is a required part of your application.

Step 3: Gather Your Application Packet

You will submit all of this through the BHEC online portal. Have these documents ready:

  1. Official Transcripts
  2. Practicum Documentation Form: A form from BHEC that your university (likely your program director or internship coordinator) fills out to verify your 300-hour practicum (which must include 100 direct hours).
  3. Supervisory Agreement Form: The form you and your new supervisor signed.
  4. Jurisprudence Exam Certificate: The proof of completion from your exam.
  5. NCE Score Report: Proof that you passed the national exam.

National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB) Self-Query: You will have to request this report on yourself and upload it. It’s a routine background check.

Fingerprint/Background Check: Once you submit your application, BHEC will email you instructions on how to get your fingerprints done for the official state and FBI background check.

What are your fees for LPC supervision?

The fee for the comprehensive LPC Associate Supervision Program is $400 per month.

This rate covers all required monthly supervision hours, ensures you are receiving high-quality, specialized mentorship, and simplifies your billing.

What makes your program worth the investment?

Our program is a strategic investment in your future practice, not just a licensure requirement. Your fee is justified by:

✔️ RPT-S Dual Certification: Your hours count toward both your LPC licensure and your RPT certification simultaneously, a massive value that is unique to my program.

✔️ Practice Management Roadmap: We dedicate time to teaching you the business of therapy, including marketing, documentation, and ethical private practice scaling.

✔️ Intensive Hybrid Model: You receive the perfect balance of intensive 1-on-1 mentorship and collaborative peer learning.

What makes your supervision different?

What makes my supervision different is a focus on building your long-term career success. You will gain:

✔️ Private Practice Mentorship: Benefit from my 20 years of experience to learn the practical business skills needed to build a sustainable and successful career.

✔️ Mastery in Parent & Family Work: Learn concrete strategies to confidently guide the entire family system using models like Positive Discipline and Parent-Child Relationship Therapy.

✔️ A Diverse Clinical Toolbox: Move beyond a single theory and learn to intentionally integrate modalities like CBT, art, and EMDR-informed practices.

What will we focus on during supervision?

Our sessions will be comprehensive and are designed to ensure you develop the core competencies outlined by APT. We will focus on three key areas:

✔️ Professional Engagement in Play Therapy: Exploring your professional identity, advocacy, and ongoing growth in the field

✔️ Knowledge & Understanding of Play Therapy: Discussing theory, history, and ethics.

✔️ Clinical Play Therapy Skills: Reviewing your techniques, case conceptualization, and interventions.

What is your main approach to therapy?

My approach is grounded in a Client-Centered and Adlerian foundation. I believe the therapeutic relationship is paramount, empowering clients as the experts in their own lives (Client-Centered), while also exploring how their unique life experiences, social connections, and sense of belonging shape their current challenges (Adlerian).

When working with children, I specialize in Child-Centered Play Therapy, trusting the play process to help them express, process, and resolve their inner conflicts in their most natural language. I also utilize Sand Tray Therapy, expressive arts techniques, and natured based play therapy when clients of all ages.

How is supervision structured?

To fulfill the BHEC requirements and maximize your learning, our program is structured as a hybrid model:

✔️ One 2-Hour Group Session per month

(Total of 2 hours a month)

✔️ Two 1-Hour Individual Sessions per month (Total of 2 hours a month)

This three-meeting cadence ensures a deep focus on your individual cases and dedicated time for group consultation.

What will we focus on during supervision?

Group supervision is a non-negotiable requirement of the program and is held on the First Tuesday of every month for two hours (e.g., 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM CST).

You must be available at this time to join the program.
